Forest Mountain Valleys of Forests

The climate and exposure in the French Pyrenees are conducive to the development of forests, up to relatively high altitudes. Part of Latin Legacy, the terms  » Sulva  » or séoubos séubas are frequently found in the names of localities . The Pyrenean forest is , in essence , beech and fir. The  » beech fir  » is characteristic of the stage called  » mountain  » of 700-1800 m. In drier areas ( Capcir Valley Rioumajou above Saint Lary… ) , there are areas of Scots pine ; above , at altitude, where the woodlands give way to summer pastures , are the birch, mountain ash and pine hook and which dominate.
Couserans in the Basque Country , it is beech dominated.
